What did I miss?

I get kind of compulsive when it comes to media consumption. I start freakin' myself out when I think I've missed the awesome new thing. The obsure documentary about the 23 year old music genius who killed him/herself with a violin bow, or the new side project by the guy from Frog Eyes or "Weird" Al Yankovic's new podcast. It kills me to think I may have missed out on cool stuff. It's sad and pathetic really.

I'm going to share something with you. It's the list of movies, tv shows & books I went through last year (2009). I couldn't figure out a better way to do it, so I'm just pasting into this post:

Yeah. So, this is the real me. Notice I also put concerts and events on the list. I even have my own ratings system that I'd like to say is just for ratings sake, but really it's because sometimes I can't remember if I liked something or not (or I've just confused one movie with another, having watched 800 of them in a year). When I'm not watching or reading, I listen to music (and more recently podcasts) like crazy. This is my sickness. Something that I am not going to have nearly as much time for when the baby is here.

I hope this kid likes cool stuff.

Getting back to topic, I feel like I scramble to keep up. I used to work at a record store and while I was there I felt on top of it. As soon as I left, there was just no way to keep up. When I was surrounded by it, it was easy, but when I had to do it on my own I lost track of so many things. The good thing was that I was able to focus on the stuff I genuinely loved, instead of what the costumer wanted. That was nice. But, ultimately, I felt myself gearing more towards movies. I started watching a ton, getting more movie geek friends, then came Netflix Watch Instantly (!), I started helping at the Tallahassee Film Festival and it all just exploded. Not to mention TV shows. I love a lot of TV, but they take up soooooo much more time. Leslee only likes watching 1 or 2 episodes at a time...not me. I like doing 4 or 5 or 6 episodes in a night. Knockin' em out. It is awesome to have cool friends who help you keep up-to-date on stuff and I do feel like I help (or perhaps hinder) others, but regardless, I need the opposite. I need a support group. I really don't want to care this much.

Preparing for Transition

Preparing for transition. If I want to be totally honest with myself, I'd have to say that I probably spend, on average, 15 hours a day with some sort of entertainment entity in front of my eyes. Maybe more. God, I hope I don't ever go blind. What would I do with all of my time? I'm too lazy to learn how to read braille and I know Leslee won't describe the eye gouging, stabbing or vomiting from the horror films I love so much, in the detail that I would like.
So, as my profile description says, the aforementioned wife, Leslee, who runs this blog, is going to be having a baby in the hot heat of Florida's 2010 summer. I feel like I need to prepare myself for this by being less obsessed over things like this. Leslee, who is mostly a saint, puts up with a lot. I don't want to push my luck.
